SpinHouse

4-channel live-sound-installation

SPINHOUSE is a sound piece created from and with the office building Tannenstrasse 2 in Dresden. The soughing and roaring, clicking and sparkling sound the house produces inside are arranged to a composition following the facade of the building as a score.
Developed during the residency “springhouse 2014”.

So far all springhouse editions have taken place in different private homes. Participating artists had been invited to transform those private houses into a temporary space for the arts by means of contemporary artistic interventions. springhouse 2014 took place in an office building for the first time focusing on WORK, on the design and function of spaces for work and industrial production.

“In a darkened room full of people all still sitting there sweating, Anna Schimkat was performing her sound at this year’s springhouse festival. In this art-free room of the office building in Tannenstraße in Dresden the boundaries between work – work and work and art blurred and the carpet scratched as in the school of music of my childhood, except this one did not smell of the dried spit of a brass-player but of sweat, especially in this tiny space whose confinement was even denser by the sounds Schimkat threw all around the ears. I had long ceased trying to classify the noises and sounds and was completely caught in a kind of meditative contemplation, perceived the sounds only as white noise and got a weird desire for sex, as the repetitions, the noise and sounds suddenly stopped – the silence was louder than any lonely worked shredder at the end of a long office hallway. And again sinking into noise. When it was over I felt like I was freshly fucked and walked through the halls and rooms as in trance.”
